Here comes the PROLOGUE

That was the dawn of hope rising bravely from the conspiring night. None imagined that it would be she, who could challenge the time and go back and face the change. Yes no one, but Susainna knew as she descended with hope and purpose —- Her daughter would do it this time.

Rising from the coyness of her existence,
To let the world shine with brilliance,
To challenge the stones, the stars, the air and the clouds,
To clean the muck her people would never be proud,
Yes, here comes the girl to question Drudan for his crime
And give back the most beautiful time.

Susainna danced and sang the song, with tears glimmering like pearls on her cheery face. She knew her waiting had been answered and her misery had come to an end. At last, her daughter had found a womb and would take birth in no time!

Best Children Books – Chapter 1: The revelation

The chill of the evening was slapping her cheeks. Anika ran ahead while Radhika pursued behind, asking her to stop. Radhika was taken aback by the abrupt change in her little sister’s reactions. They had simply come for the usual evening walk in the woods. Though there was a startling change in the weather, more shocking was the transformation in her sister’s response. The gust of wind had hastily befallen with a strange gurgling sound, pushing the pine trees to sway violently and drop it’s cones everywhere. Radhika was surprised how night had suddenly crept in the realm of evening. Anika had panicked with the impulsive change in the climate. The Full Moon shone with all its might and the stars stood sprinkled around it. Anika was trembling as she ran; her face utterly impassive, and her callow hands trying to clutch her white frock. She tried straining her face muscles and throat in the hope to call her sister but there was no sound. She wanted to cry, but tears refused her. All that she could manage was to gape at the Moon that was walking silently amidst the clouds. After sometime her lips moved slowly and she yelled, “the Moon is calling; I have to read the stars!”

Terrified listening to her own voice, she ran…..

 Secrets of Zynpagua

Radhika dashed behind. The current of air held her back from catching up with her sister. She tried harder to approach Anika but in the attempt hit her foot on a pointed boulder, lost balance, and fell crashing on the knees. She was furious and screamed “Anika, what is the matter?” Her knees and palms were bruised. She yelled again “Anika, stop, I am hurt!” Anika abruptly halted and turned towards Radhika. She saw the flow of blood from Radhika’s knees and palms; her gasping for breath and trying to stand; her flushed face wet with perspiration, yet she remained pale and blank and her legs shook uncontrollably. In a dazed state she continued repeating “I know I can read the stars!” With that Anika fell and lost consciousness.

Radhika dragged herself trying to reach Anika. While Anika was ten years old, Radhika was also young, only thirteen, but was struggling to maintain a brave front, to control her nerves and forget the acute pain rising from her limbs. She was regretting coming to the woods in the evening. Both Anika and Radhika had secretly come for a walk in the adjoining forest.

Before these events, grandma’s house had been paradise. Their grandparents were Professors’ in the Shillong University, where the two sisters had come to spend their summer vacation. Shillong, a magnificent hill station and the capital of the State of Meghalaya in India, was truly an abode of clouds. The university campus was laden with patches of pine trees. The breathtaking breeze, the descending clouds, the memorable trip to Cherrapunji- the historical place of heaviest rainfall in the world, only two hours from Shillong- everything had been a dream come true, away from school and hectic life in Singapore where their parents worked in a multinational company. Radhika at thirteen was lovely lass, with long black hair and beautiful brown eyes. The right cheek flaunted a cute dimple that had won many admirers. Despite her popularity, she remained humble and kind, with her attention entirely on Anika. Her younger sister Anika was coy and a quiet girl. She disliked the sight of homework and dominating teachers. She kept her hair short to avoid getting into the puzzle of braiding. Anika too had brown eyes with a speck of gold in them. The innocent charm of her face was veiled by the burden at school. The summer vacation every year in the arms of Shillong rendered a wonderful break, away from the ruthless teachers and demanding homework.
Now, things were different. Radhika knew her grandparents would be back from their classes soon and be extremely anxious on not finding them in the house. She somehow crawled and reached Anika. Garnering all her strength, she held Anika’s shoulders and tried making her sit but failed. Engulfed with despair and pain, she began to weep. It was past seven in the evening when Agnis, the helper in the house, finally approached the woods. She shrieked seeing Radhika and Anika lying in the dark. Agnis assisted Radhika to stand and said “What happened, why have you come here? We are so worried. I have been searching for you girls since an hour. This forest is inundated with snakes and you are lucky to not have encountered one. Your grandfather has gone out to seek aid of other professors and your grandmother is sobbing at home.” When Agnis saw Radhika had no strength to respond she said “Ok dear, don’t worry, I will fetch someone for help, but it is unsafe here and I do not want to leave the two of you behind.”
Radhika gathered courage and with Agnis’s assistance lifted Anika and carried her home. Grandmother was stunned seeing Anika unconscious and Radhika bleeding. She immediately called her husband and the doctor.
Radhika kept cursing herself; she was the elder one and should have been more responsible. No one talked till the doctor came. He checked Anika and construed it to be a regular frailty due to excessive binging on snacks. Anika was very skinny and observing her health, the doctor advised some energy drinks and fruits for her. Blood was still oozing out from Radhika’s knees, but her entire concern was Anika. The doctor directed grandfather to bring Radhika to the dispensary for stitches. What an unpleasant evening it had been!
As soon as Radhika and Grandfather left for the dispensary, Anika began to toss and turn in the bed.
Grandmother prepared pomegranate juice for her. Seeing Anika’s reluctance to drink the juice, Agnis stepped in and said “this juice is made from special pomegranates. Your grandfather’s friend got them from Spain.
Anika suddenly sat up in the bed and began to tremble. She murmured “Spain? Who is in Spain?

Grandmother looked perturbed and said
